Independence Day, 19th Century Style

Celebrate Independence Day with historic activities!. There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence at 12 p.m., followed by a cannon firing! The Bluegrass Missourians, a bluegrass band, will be performing at 1 p.m. And the Shawnee Indian Missioners will play the Mahaffie Stagecoach Drivers in 19th century baseball at 2 p.m. The baseball rules will be explained to encourage visitor participation in the game. Bring a picnic lunch, blankets and chairs and enjoy this American celebration!

Stagecoach Saturdays

Ride the stagecoach and tour the Mahaffie house. Stagecoach rides are $2 or $1 with paid house tour.

Claudetter Walker, long-time favorite with the Speaker Series audience, will portray this widow and mother of 2 who at the height of her success catered to the richest and most powerful men of her day in Kansas City. Claudette Walker operates “Claudette’s One Woman Show” and portrayed Eleanor Roosevelt for us last year.
